A Lighthouse of Hope: Finding Purpose in Motherhood

A Lighthouse of Hope: Finding Purpose in Motherhood

I didn’t realize it when I woke up Sunday morning, but God had a lesson waiting for me—one that would profoundly impact me and my family. It’s incredible how He teaches us through the simplest moments. This past Mother’s Day, God reminded me of His plan and my purpose—to be a lighthouse of hope.

After dinner, I decided to unwind and take a bath. I was grateful for a sweet day—sleeping in, watching church from home, opening thoughtful gifts from my kids, and enjoying a delicious meal prepared by my husband and older children. But by the end, I was emotionally and physically drained.

When God Speaks Through the Ordinary

As I sank into the bath, I looked up at a picture hanging above the tub. It’s been there for years—something we picked up at IKEA years ago because of its calming, beachy feel. At the time, it made me think of flying toward the light. But this time, it struck a deeper chord.

The picture shows five birds flying toward a lighthouse with three windows.

And suddenly, it hit me—we are the lighthouse for our children.

"You are the light of the world..." Matthew 5:14-16

The past few months have been incredibly challenging. There have been moments when we’ve questioned everything—our parenting, our patience, our calling. I’ve asked God over and over, “Are You sure I’m the right mom for this?”

And in that quiet moment, I wept. Because I felt the Holy Spirit whisper to my heart, not only am I the right mom, but my husband and oldest child are exactly who these kids need, too.

You Are a Lighthouse of Hope

We’ve welcomed five new hearts into our home in the last 2.5 years. And long before that, there were three of us, my husband, my oldest, and I, ready to love them.

“You are the lighthouse,” I felt God say.
“I’ve drawn them to you so that the three of you could share your love and light, and guide them toward Me.”

"You are the lighthouse—chosen, placed, and built by God to shine hope in the hearts of the children He's entrusted to you."

Lighthouses are symbols of hope. They guide, protect, and provide a safe haven during life’s storms. And that image hanging on our wall—long before we knew what it would come to mean—perfectly represents the role we play in God’s plan.

You Were Made to Shine

Parenting, especially in a blended home, often feels overwhelming. We rarely feel qualified. But God knew. He handpicked us for this.

We are not perfect, but we are called. And that calling is enough. So now, every time I walk into that bathroom and see that picture, I smile. And each time I hear God’s voice again: “You are enough. I built you for this. Be the light.”

You are a lighthouse of hope for your family. Keep shining your light.
